Rebecca Mastropasqua, Governor Livingston H.S.

Join the GSSPA Student Chapter on Aug. 26 in a virtual back-to-school get together session from 1-3 p.m. on Google Meet.

The group will gather to discuss upcoming COVID related coverage ideas, hear from experienced New Voices advocates about how to get involved in protecting student journalists’ First Amendment rights, and kick around any other relevant issues on their minds.

The GSSPA Student Chapter is a way for high school journalists to connect with their peers from around New Jersey. Members have the opportunity to meet and chat with other publications about common issues and with each other’s guidance, hopefully form solutions to them. Over the past few months, the group has been gathering via Google Meet to exchange ideas.

Discussions won’t only focus on article writing itself, but also a larger discussion of the New Voices Bill. New Voices has already been passed  in 14 states and momentum continues to grow to obtain the legislation in New Jersey. The adoption of this bill will protect student journalists’ freedom of press with state laws.
